This listing includes main Soul, Jazz, Funk, Disco artists that recorded on ABC recordsbetween 1968 to 1979. It doesn't includes for the moment, the ABC/DUNHILL acts.

 

A little story: ABC was created in 1955. It's name comes from the subsidary company named "The Am-Par Record Corporation" formed by American Broadcasting-Paramount Theaters, Inc. Am-Par Records released Pop, Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, Children's and Spoken Word records under the label name "ABC-Paramount" moniker. The head office is going to distribute between 1950 and 1960 labels as Impulses! Bluesway, Audition, Command, Performance, Dunhill, Duke / Peacock, Probe... In 1966 the additive PARAMOUNT disappears to speak about simply "ABC Record".

ABC does not succumb to the DISCO fever from 1975, and it is necessary to wait for 1977 to see the creation of a label ABC-DISCO which will realize only 20 12" singles. On the other hand, numerous ALBUM will be produced under ABC.
At the same time, a series entitled " SPECIAL SAMPLER DJ ", will be also launched  in the 12" single format to promote the pop & jazz artists of ABC.

To note that ABC DISCO ( ABC) will distribute from 1978 of the production of MONTAGE Records.

 

In 1979, ABC is bought back by MCA who is going to start again under contract numerous artists, who are going to come to enrich the catalog soul / funk / disco of MCA, to quote only as examples; AL HUDSON, SHOTGUN, Denise LaSALLE...
