P & P stands for Peter an Patrick last name. They met in year 1973, when Patrick ADAMS lefted his job as PERCEPTION records A&R. When Patrick Adams left Perception/Today Records he incorporated his own productions company - Patrick Adams Productions Music - "PAPMUS".

About the same time, Patrick met this record promotions guy named Peter Brown and together they formed their own, Harlem-based, P & P Records. The label was distributed by Roulette Records and over the next couple of years they would release lots of (today) hard-to-find classics either on their P & P label, or any of the other labels they run; SONY [Sound of New York], Queen Constance, Heavenly Star, Clarence Music, Funk Groove, Georgia Peach, Hit Makers Of America, Land Of Hits,Tyson and a couple of others.

 

P & P large story, have without any doubt it's place just besides the likes of SALSOUl, WEST END, or PRELUDE; it's P&P, it's aN GOLDEN Label imprint!. Based in HARLEM, All P&P released had a distinctive sound that John Mc Cready (*) describe has "a trademark mood madness, strings that slice throught any perceptions of surgary disco sweetness". The P&P galaxy includes disco, funk, soul, electro and earliest rap releases. In this way it was innovative and inventive !

 

Concerning  Copyrights, notice that main released were tagged with publishing of "GILYARD MUSIC / PUBLISHING". GILYARD was the young name of Patricia (GILYARD) BROWN, peter's wife.
