Voici une sélection des artistes français les plus représentatif du mouvement Disco.
Michel POLNAREFF-1976
Avec lui, le mouvement
disco a touché la France. Précurseur, ce génie s'appelle
Michel POLNAREFF. En 1976, il a enregistré la B.O du film
"Lipstick". Français, certes, mais vivant aux États-unis.
Donc, en écoutant la radio à l'époque, il a probablement été
influencé par le "Philadelphia Sound" et les compositions de
Barry WHITE, des sons qui parcouraient tous les états des
U.S.A. Solos de violons et rythmique disco, on fait de ce
disque un des premiers tubes disco enregistré par un
français.
Claude FRANCOIS-1976
Pour
lui, le disco c'était plus qu'un retour aux sources!. Tombé
dans la musique par les percussions et les rythmes
infernaux, fabuleux danseur, il ne pouvait pas passer à coté
de ce mouvement. Il l'a prouvé en 1976 avec le titre "Cette
Année Là", (reprise en Français de "Oh What A Night"), et il
a poursuivi avec "Je vais à Rio" de Peter ALLEN, "Magnolias
For Ever" et "Alexandrie, Alexandra", ces deux derniers
tubes. Ce qui est la marque indélébile de ces titres, c'est
la force, et l'efficacité de la rythmique.
S.B DEVOTION-1979
Le cas des "S.B Devotion"
peut paraître plus surprenant. Née Anny CHANCEL, à Paris en
1946, c'est sous le nom de SHEILA qu'elle est bien connue
des français. Flanquée des BLACK DEVOTIONS, danseurs noirs,
ce concept est un idée de son producteur Claude CARRERE
(label du même nom, et distribué aux U.S.A par Columbia). La
petite chanteuse de "L'école est finie" ou "Des Rois Mages
en Galilée", est dans une période creuse de sa carrière.
Comme bon nombre d'artistes Américains, le Disco va la
relancer, et lui ouvrir un nouveau public. Son succès de la
fins des années 70, elle le doit aux titres suivants : "Love
me baby" et "Singing in the rain", durant l'été 1977 et
1978, puis avec une version kitsch de "You light my fire".
C'est du disco basique, avec un succès toute fois modéré en
france. L'audience est plus forte en Italie et en Allemagne.
Alors quel choc, lorsque les radios nationales ont entendu
le titre international "Spacer" produit par le duo magique
de l'époque CHIC en 1979 !!! "Spacer" Bilboard "Hot Soul
Single". Peak position: 28 (13 weeks).

(ex- Madame Johnny HALLYDAY), avec "Disco queen" et
"I don't want the night to end", ou France Gall with
"Dancin' Disco",
- Serge GAINSBOURG
avec "Sea, sex and sun" qui la petite histoire le
raconte à été composé en quelques instants sur le coin d'une
table. Le même serge à également écrit pour Alain CHANFORD
"Manureva" titre dédié à Alain COLAS lors de sa disparition
en mer.
- La Russie ne s'est jamais remis du succès généré par
Didier MAROUANI sous le nom de son groupe
SPACE et son titre
"Magic Fly ".
- Le groupe BELLE EPOQUE
avec
"Miss Broadway" en novembre 1978, un groupe Disco de
PARIS."Hot Soul Single" Peak position: 26 (12 weeks)."Pop
Hot 100" Peak position: 92.
Enfin DALIDA "J'attendrai" ("I will survive"), "Generation
78", ou Karen Cheryl "Sing to me Mama". Il y en a encore
plein d'autre, mais ceux-là il est préférable de les laisser
dans l'ombre...

Michel POLNAREFF-1976
However, disco
wave, also hit the country. Forerunner man, is the genuis
man called Michel POLNAREFF. It's in 1976 that he recorded
the original soundtrack "Lipstick".
French man, yes, but living in the USA. So listenning to the
radios, he probably has been influenced by the Philadelphia
sound and Barry WHITE's compositions, that were flowing all
over the continent at that period. Violons movements and
rhythmics made that record one of the first disco hit
recorded by a french artist.

FRANCOIS-1976
For
him disco movement, was more a way back home; born to the
music via percussions and rhythm, fabulous dancer , he
couldn't not pass away that movement.He proved that , from
year 1976 with "cette année là" (which is a french version
of "Oh what a night"), then he borrowed "Je vais a Rio" from
Peter ALLEN, and succesively recorded "Magnolias for ever"
and "Alexandria, Alexandra", his two last hits. What is
incredible about those titles, is the efficiency of the
musical rhythms.

DEVOTION-1979
S.B Devotion case,
is more surprising. Borned Anny Chancel in PARIS in 1946
she, under this nickname, hides a well knowned french
artist SHEILA, the Black devotion are the dancers (blacks).
She is well knowned in France since the early 60's, and it
is a great clever marketing idea worked out by her produder;
Claude CARRERE (yes the man behind the french record
label CARRERE, and distributed in the States by Columbia).
The immortal performer of "l'école est finie" or "des rois
mage en galillée", is at that time without big hit success.
Disco music allow her to conclude 70's years in a better
way, while she conquers a new audience. All began with those
consecutive hits of "Love me baby" and "Singing in the
rain", between summer 1977 & 1978 and ended with a very
kitsch version of "You light my fire". But it's very simple
disco, and success is limited in France. So what a
surprise, when the
national radios discover the international hit maker
"Spacer" produced by the men of CHIC in 1979 !. "Spacer"
Bilboard "Hot Soul Single". Peak position: 28 (13
weeks).

under his name group SPACE
and "Magic Fly " hitted number 2 in UK.
- The group BELLE EPOQUE
with "Miss Broadway" in november 1978., a disco
group from PARIS."Hot Soul Single" Peak position: 26 (12
weeks)."Pop Hot 100" Peak position: 92.
Then follow DALIDA "J'attendrai" ("I will survive"),
"Generation 78", or Karen Cheryl "Sing to me Mama". There
are others, but it preferable to let them in the dark
lights..
