Voici ci-dessous un extrait du livre de mel : " My Life at the PARADISE GARAGE", au sujet du DISCO-BREAK ;
<<....We were amazed: a so-so record was suddenly snappy, upbeat and ten times beter. But there was something more. Right here, on his first try at remixing, he did something so radical i could hardly beleive my ears."Dreamworld" was only about three minutes long, so Tom decided that he wanted to extend it. But there was a hitch. The song modulate into a higher key near the end, making it impossible to get back to the beginning without modulating back down. Generally speaking in music you can modulate up all you want, since that make a song seems brighter. But you can't modulate down.....>>
Tom MOULTON facing a technical and musical challenge gave birth to a NOW-STANDARD in the club songs: the disco break. Another major inovation that helped the 12" inch format to take is fly, is that TOM MOULTON, in conjunction with MEL CHERREN invented what is now called "THE DISCO BREAK"
It's on a master copy of DON DOWNING's "Dreamworld" that the Disco break came to life. Because the song was only 3 mns long, T.M decided to extend it. But, in order to pass thru musical and technical problems Tom stopped the song to the hare percussion tracks, eliminating all singing, musical instruments, until he left to a "TRIBAL FORMAT". Then he build back the song re-incorporating successivly all the instruments and finally the lyrics. M.C suggested to keep it for a while, so the crowd would be able to get into it.
Here is a part of mel's "My life and THE PARADISE GARAGE"'s book concerning the disco break birth:
