LE MAXI-45T GÉANT est apparu aussi en France fin 1976, grâce à "La Société Française" VOGUE. Les premiers 45T-GÉANT ont été pressés par VOGUE fin 1976. Les ventes ont suivi assez vite et cette maison de disques a longtemps été le pourvoyeur de maxis pour une génération de Français et d'européens. Cette maison de disque distribuait en licence de nombreux produits maxis des states, tels que PYRAMID, ROADSHOW, MIDSONG (John Travolta), BUDDAH (Wardell Piper, Beverly Johnson), et aussi des maxis en provenance d'Angleterre telles que les productions de PYE (Real Thing). Des produits français ont aussi eu leur place. Vous souvenez-vous de MARTIN CIRCUS (Shine Baby Shine ou I've Got A Treat"), titre même reconnus aux USA et pressés par PRELUDE (PRL D-503 pour "Disco Circus"). En 1979 et 1980 cette maison de disque continua a développer son goût pour le disco mais aussi pour le rap, en distribuant SUGARHILL, et plus tard encore de labels US plus avant-gardistes comme STREETWISE, ou en Angleterre des sons NEW WAVE avec SOFT CELL "Tainted Love" en 1981. Je dois préciser que la réputation de cette maison de disques était de réaliser des pressage de qualité très moyenne, pour ne pas dire médiocre. Toutefois ce fût aussi le premier à réaliser des collections de vinyles de couleur.
Toujours en France au début des années 1977, les "majors" avec leur branche française, comme CBS FRANCE, EMI/PATHÉ-MARCONI, POLYDOR, RCA abandonnèrent elles aussi le format 45T pour le format MAXI-45T pour les productions disco. L'aboutissement de cette mutation peut être considéré comme le succès phénoménal du disque de PATRICK HERNANDEZ "Born To Be Alive" (AQUARIUS 5555) distribué par CBS France, mais aussi par le succès remporté par LAURENT WOULZY et son "ROCKCOLLECTION" de plus de 10 minutes sur RCA.
French GIANT 45 RPM aslo appeared in 1976, thanks to the "French Society" VOGUE. It was in late '76 that 12" Singles or more exactly Giant 45" (that's the french used term) singles appeared in FRANCE. The first French label to drop them were called VOGUE records "la société francaise" (aka the french society). Rapidly increassing their sellings, this label has been the first provider of giant 12" for a génération of french and european youngs boys and girls. This label was distributing US dance music act, formelly dropped on US independant labels such as, MIDSONG (john travolta), BUDDAH (wardell piper, beverly Johnson), and UK release's such as PYE's artists (Real Thing). French production were also present, don't you remember the MARTIN CIRCUS (shine, baby,shine or I've got a treat)?!, even knowned in the states (Released on Prelude as PRL D-503 "Disco circus"). In the 79's and the 80's this label has been continuing his expansion with the distribution of emerging rap label SUGARHILL, and later new oriented dance label STREETWISE, or UK new wave sounds such as SOFT CELL "Tainted Love" in 1981. I have to mention that VOGUE's reputation was to drop extemly bad quality 12" inch pressing. However it was the first to release special COLOURED vynil editions.
Still in France, in the begenning of 1977 , other majors labels such as CBS, EMI, POLYDOR, RCA also abandonned 7" inch format for the 12" when disco artists were produced or distributed in FRANCE. The achievement of that changing in dance music scene is the succes of the mighty multi-million selling artist PATRICK HERNANDEZ. "Born to be alive" (French AQUARIUS-5555 12" distributed by CBS , US as 12" ref:23-10987 ) where sold over the world. In the Hexagone Laurent WOULZY's"Rockcollection" (RCA) marked the path.
