"Where The sun sets and the stars rise"...Ou se lève le soleil et grandissent les stars...Le label West-End constitue la combinaison parfaite entre le métier, l'oreille et le mix. West-End peut être considéré comme le premier label Disco indépendant. Grâce à TOM MOULTON, le premier MAXI-45T de chez SCEPTER records était réalisé et il reçu une réponse incroyable. Mais était-ce JESSE GREEN "Nice and Slow" ou SOUTH SHORE COMMISSION "Train Called Freedom" ?.
C'était la révolution de la vie nocturne. C'est à cet instant là que ces deux jeunes gens brillants arrêtèrent de donner leurs meilleurs idées aux autres, et ainsi commencèrent à réaliser des disques eux-mêmes sur leur responsabilité. WEST-END était né. C'est en décembre 1976 que le label ouvrit, avec MEL CHEREN et ED KUSHINS. Les deux se sont rencontré quelques années auparavant alors qu'ils étaient employés chez SCEPTER. (Là même où TOM sévit!). C'est au sein de WEST-END que Mel affirme avoir crée le concept du 12".
Mel observa la relation étroite existant entre la musique Disco et les Clubs, et ainsi pensa qu'en réalisant les produits au format 12", les DJ's les adopteraient au moins pour 2 raisons : la première le SON, la seconde; la facilité à les MIXER.
Cette idée germât alors même que Mel travaillait encore chez SCEPTER, mais comme le succès musical de ce label déclinât, SCEPTER ferme le portes en juillet 1976. Ed et Mel ont géré les opérations de fermeture de SCEPTER, et dans le même temps ont décidé de monter leur PROPRE label: WEST-END. L'homme d'affaire et l'homme du Disco installés dans les mêmes locaux que ceux de SCEPTER (W.54Th St. Building), et en même temps que l'année du bi-centennaire, la révolution disco commençât.

Thanks to Tom MOULTON, the first SCEPTER 12's was on the road and received an incredible response. Was it Jesse Green "Nice and Slow" or South Shore Commission "Train Called Freedom" ?.
This was an overnight revolution. It was at this time that those two brillants guys decided to stop giving all their best ideas to somebodyelse, and starded releasing records themselves under their own banner. WEST-END records was born. WEST-END was setted up in december 1976, by MEL CHEREN & ED KUSHINS. Those two guys met together a few years earlier, when they each was employed by SCEPTER RECORDS. (Hey same place than Tom's one's).It is in this home record label that MEL CHEREN claim to have invented the concept of 12" single.
Mel CHEREN noting the relationship between DISCO MUSIC and CLUBS, had the idea to release records in 12" single format, releasing that DJ's would belcome such records for two reasons;the fisrt once was their enhanced sound quality, the second, there mixing capacibility.
That opportunity came at the same time as SCEPTER records, out of musical success, decided to close the door. It was in july 1976. Ed (KUSHINS) and Mel (CHERREN) followed the closing operations of the label and decided in the same time to lauch their OWN new label: WEST-END. The bussiness mand and the disco-music man started in the same office that the SCEPTER's one (W.54th St. Building), and during that bicentenial area, DISCO music began it's revolution.
