This listing includes main Soul, Jazz, Funk, Disco artists that recorded on ABC recordsbetween 1968 to 1979. It doesn't includes for the moment, the ABC/DUNHILL acts.

A little story: ABC was created in 1955. It's name comes from the subsidary company named "The Am-Par Record Corporation" formed by American Broadcasting-Paramount Theaters, Inc. Am-Par Records released Pop, Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, Children's and Spoken Word records under the label name...ABC-Paramount

During the 50's & 60's ABC-Paramount used to sign early Rock 'n Roll artists, and also launced and purchase many sub-labels such as; Impulse!, Bluesway, Audition, Dunhill, Duke/Peacock, Probe... In 1966 ABC-Paramount became ABC Records. During the 70's ABC encountered much success with white rock bands, but the label was also the home of many top soul recordings.

In 1979 MCA records purchase ABC records, and the label was close very quickly, while MCA kept many artists, and re-issued some of the the back catalog.

The suffix matrix changed several times;

* 60's: ABCS for ABC Stéreo.

* 70's: ABCX used to be regular after # ABCX-740 from 1971 til the 3rd quarter of 1974)

          ABCD From ABCD-830  to ABCD-973 (1974 to 1977)

          AB from AB-974 (1977) to AA-1006

          AA from AA-1016 (for the ABC-MCA fusion ?)
