SPECIAL MITCH RACE NOTES. : Will You Be The One” was recorded and mixed at Calliope Studios, Penthouse C at 265 West 37th Street on 8th Ave. in New York on February 20, 1985.  Engineered by David Eskrin.  The 24 Track Master was taped on 2” Ampex  at 30 ips with no noise reduction.  Tempo was 98 BPM.  The 2” was mixed down to a  ¼” reel at 15 ips, also Ampex tape and edited for a 7” radio single, 12” club mix and dub mix.  The 7” version (quite rare—I’m not even sure if I still have a copy) had a “b-side” with a shortened dub mix which was totally different from the “Danger Dub” on the 12”—this mix was aptly called “The Morning Mix”.  The sun was just coming up when this mix was completed, we had been in the studio for over 10 hours!

Bernice Frazier, Lead and All Background Vocals.  Her microphone was a classic Neumann.   Mitch Race, written, produced, mixed, all keyboards and drum programming—no sequencer was used for any of the keyboard tracks— but there was a sync track generated from an Oberheim DMX for the drum machines--drums were Simmons and Roland Tr-808.  A Roland Juno 106 was used for the bassline, strings, and bells and pads—I also recall a Yamaha DX7 somewhere in there.  I wrote the song on a Yamaha MT44 4 Track Cassette in my bedroom.

Two months after it was recorded at Calliope, “Will You Be The One” was signed and released as a 12” by the New York Record Company on West 57th Street.
