First of all, pronouce the name label as this ONE/ELEVEN records. We don't have any explainations about this name. Founded et managed by James BRATTON, this early 90's label was followed by many NEW JERSEY HOUSE SOUND collectors.

What characterize this label, is very heavy grooves, with "suffocate" drums, plus powerfull chorus and vocals, which was rare at that time, house was often onyl instrumental.

Main artists was Kim BEACHAM, the REDD group and Todd EDWARDS whom released here ones of his first productions. Almost all titles were produced by James BRATTON, who is also responsible of more commercial releases on CHAMPION U.K label.

Toutefois, on y retrouve quelques artistes soul/funk, tel le groupe canadien CHERI et surtout la chanteuse soul/r&b Donna ALLEN. Distribué au départ par Polygram sur la base d'un contrat de trois ans, c'est ensuite ATLANTIC qui difusera ce label jusque fin 1987. 21 Records is a "special", eclectic, considering the productions. Indeed its catalog contains a large majory of "White" pop artists. However, we find some soul / funk artists there, such Canadian group like CHERI and especially the soul / r&b singer Donna ALLEN. Distributed at first by Polygram on the basis of a contract of three years, it is then ATLANTIC who managed this label til the end of 1987. To Note that to polydor / polygram took out in Europe on this label TOMMY BOY signatures.

En effet, exit le son disco-funk, et bienvenue aux premières productions basées sur l'électronique, et alliant le Hip/Hop avec le scratch. On va également voir figurer sur ce label les premières productions houses de N.Y. C'est aussi dans cet environnement dirigé par Matt NOBLE que l'on va voir éclore les mixes et les edits de TOMMY MUSTO qui continuera de travailler pour NORTHCOTT sur de multiples autres labels, comme SUB URBAN, FOURTH FLOOR par exemple... Le "Sure Shot Mix" constituera aussi une de marques de fabrique de 25 WEST. Bref un label bien innovant pour l'époque.

A noter que les version maxi-45t sont sorties sur SUNSHINE SOUND records sans aucune référence à ce label.

To note that 12" singles went out on SUNSHINE SOUND without any reference to this label.

Fondé par "J.R", le label evoluera du blues en 71vers la soul jusqu'en 1975, avec des produtions assurées par Allen ORANGE, Jackey BEAVERS, David LEE, John RICHBOURG. Successeur de SOUND STAGE 7, on y retrouvera certains artistes de ce défunt label comme SAM BAKER. Les artites majeurs sont: ANN SEXTON, GEATER DAVIS, BRIEF ENCOUNTER, EARL GAINES, pour n'en citer que quelques uns. D'ailleurs beaucoup de ces artistes ont également enregistré sur l'autre label de "J.R", SOUN STAGE 7. A noter le rachat en 1974, par une société New Yorkaise.
