L'histoire des labels du début du HIP HOP récèle de véritables curiosités, comme celle de TAY-STER (ROJAC). L'histoire de ce label semble calquée sur celle de ENJOY (FURY) de Bobby ROBINSON. Fondée dans les années 60 (1968?), et axée sur la musique soul, ce label réapparait au début des années 1980 pour profiter de la vague HIP HOP nouvelle. Fondé par Jack TAYLOR (qui travailla avec Bobby ROBINSON), plusieurs réalisations RAP sortieront sur TAY-STER.

Records labels history of the beginning of the HIP HOP reveals real curiosities, as that of the TAY-STER ( ROJAC). The history of this label seems traced on that of BOBBY ROBINSON'S ENJOY ( FURY). Based in the 60s (1968?), and centred on the soul music, this label re-appears at the beginning of 1980s to take advantage of the HIP HOP new musical curiosity. Managed by Jack TAYLOR whom worked with Bobby ROBINSON, several recordings will be released o TAY-STER.

"Philly Sound". TEC records est un label indépendant de Philadelphia, qui présente l'originalité d'avoir un catalogue musicalement diversifié;au début DISCO , puis RAP, FUNK, pour terminer SOUL. Nous avons décidé de le classifier dans notre section "Ol SKOOL RAP", parce que le catalogue contient plusieurs titres cultes interprétés par DIRECT CURRENT, JOHN GIBBS & LADY B. TEC records a ensuite constitué, plus plusieurs artistes, la solution pour enregistrer et tenter de relancer leur carrière, ayant été abandonnés par leur anciennes maisons de disques (CAPTAIN SKY, CECIL PARKER, William DeVAUGHN). Ils y parviendront grâce à la reprise des contrats par WMOT/CBS en 1981.

"Philly Sound". TEC RECORDS is a independent LABEL from Philadelphia, which presents the originality to have a diversified catalog; at the beginning DISCO, then RAP, FUNK, to end SOUL. We decided to classify it in our "Ol SKOOL RAP" section, because the catalog contains several cults titles performed by DIRECT CURRENT, JOHN GIBBS and LADY B. TEC records then constituted, for several artists, the solution to record and try to boost their career, having been abandoned by them former record label (CAPTAIN SKY, CECIL PARKER, William DeVAUGHN). They will reach thanks to the resumption of contracts by WMOT / CBS there in 1981.

T.T.E.D constitue le prolongement des activités de productions de Maxx Kidd. D.E.T.T se mue en T.T.E.D en 1983 probablement pour des raisons purement financières. Ces initiales vont être la traduction de Tolérance, Thrust (foi), Education, Détermination. T.T.E.D tombe a point nonmé pour promouvori le mouvement GO GO. A cette époque ce label constitue avec FUTURE Records, un des piliers de la scène de Washington D.C, a tel point que ISLAND négociera un contrat de production et de distribution avec T.T.E.D afin de promouvoir le film GOOD TO GO. C'est pourquoi on retrouve une partie des réalisations gravitant autour du film sur 4TH 'BWAY / ISLAND. Par la suite le groupe TROUBLE FUNK, largement mis en avant par ce film restera lié par contrat avec ISLAND jusqu'en 1987, date à laquelle ISLAND leur redonne leur liberté.

Dans le même temps, le succès de cette musique est dûe à l'impact produit en Angleterre. Parralèllement à ce que ISLAND réalise aux "States", FOURTH & BROADWAY s'implique dans la GO GO à londres notemment, et enregistre des LP "live" qui sont devenus collectors. L'impact est tel que les grands noms du Disco Mix Club s'y interessent comme Chad JACKSON. Grâce à ces pressages U.K, de nombreux fans vont pouvoir obtenir des compilations GO GO, car l'Allemagne même aussi la danse.

T.T.E.D constitutes the continuation of the activities of productions of Maxx Kidd. D.E.T.T moved in T.T.E.D in 1983 probably for purely financial reasons. These initials are going to be the translation of Tolerance, Thrust ( faith), Education, Determination. T.T.E.D started well to promote the GO GO movement.  In this time this label constitutes with FUTURE Records, one of the pillars of the scene of Washington D.C, has such point as ISLAND will negotiate a contract of production and distribution with T.T.E.D to promote the film GOOD TO GO. That is why we find a part of the realizations taken from the film on 4TH ' BWAY / ISLAND. Afterward the group TROUBLE FUNK, widely advertised by this film will remain bound by contract with ISLAND until 1987, dates in which ISLAND restores them their freedom.
At the same time, the success of this music is dûe for the impact produced in England. In parralel of what ISLAND realizes in "States", FOURTH and BROADWAY gets involved in GO GO notably in London, and record a  LP " live " which became collectors. The impact is such as the big names of the Disco Mix Club interessent to it as Chad JACKSON. Thanks to these U.K, pressings  numerous fans are going to be able to obtain compilations GO GO, because Germany even also dances on them.

TURBO Records est un autre des nombreux labels créés et managés par Joey ROBINSON, Sr. & SYLVIA (ROBINSON) dans les années 1970. Si STANG, était plus particulièrement réservé aux productions du groupe THE MOMENTS, TURBO lui était quant à lui essentiellement axé sur les réalisations proposées par Linda JONES, Lonnie YOUNGBLOOD & le groupe BROTHER TO BROTHER. Fidèle à sa ligne de conduite, SYLVIA y a produit quelque reprises; c'est sur ce label que l'on trouve l'interpretation du titre "The Bottle" par le groupe BROTHER TO BROTHER, celle de "Gonna Fly Now" (TITRE DE ROCKY) par Lonnie YOUNGBLOOD. Enfin, c'est aussi sur TURBO que l'on trouve l'original de "Let Your Mind Be Free", repris ultérieuremnt sur SUGARHILL.

TURBO Records is other one of the numerous created and managed labels by Joey ROBINSON, Sr. and SYLVIA ( ROBINSON) in the 1970s. If STANG, was more particularly reserved for the productions of the group THE MOMENTS, TURBO was essentially centred on the realizations proposed by Linda JONES, Lonnie YOUNGBLOOD and the group BROTHER TO BROTHER. Faithful to her line of conduct, SYLVIA produced SEVERAL "repries" there; it is on this label that we find the interpretation of the title " The Bottle " by the group BROTHER TO BROTHER, that of "Gonna Fly Now" (From ROCKY) by Lonnie YOUNGBLOOD. Finally, it is as well on TURBO as we find the original of "Let Your Mind Be Free", later revisited on SUGARHILL.
