WEST END records was setted in December 1976 by Mel Cherren & Ed Kushins, who'd first met a few years earlier when each was employed at Scepter records. At Scepter, they have played a key role in developping artists like B.J THOMAS, Dionne WARWICK, Chuck JACKSON, Maxine BROWN and the SHIRLETTES.For those who have forgotten the dilema, it was at SCEPTER too, that Mel claimed to have invented the 12" single.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this golden label has been the label's continued ability to keep inovative, to stay at the cutting edge of dance music and carry on producing and releasing futurisitc and yet commercially successful dance music.

The label has been in low activities during 15 years and reappered in early 90 with the releases of confidential re-Editions on their 12" catalogue. After 98's miami Winter Conference; with the collaboration between Mel and... Kenton Nix this legendary label has been re-activated for real. The first result of the re-activation is Taana Gardner's "I'm Coming" in november '98.
